First things first
What can CPL24 do for you
CPL24 is a tool for collecting data and associating the results with attributes based on it’s configuration. Furthermore, CPL can read your installed software and declare, which Microsoft licenses you need.
What is not possible with CPL24
CPL24 can’t install itself on unknown infrastructures. It’s no “set and forget” enviroment. You must have a look for new assets, declare user types and check the monthly data reported. CPL24 does not guarantee any compliance according to Microsoft license usage rights.
What does it mean
First of all, you need to know about your specific enviroment:
- How much and which clusters do you have
- Which limitations exist on your network infrastructure
- You need access to the assets in your enviroment
- Which assets belong to customer xy
What can I do to be prepared for the “Onboarding-process”
You can identify your central entry points to your infrastructure. If you have customers capsuled based on your network configuration, you should have access to the different Domain-Controllers and the ability to create a service account in this domain.
Otherwise, you can use your own tools to spread the CPL24Invenory.exe and execute that application.
Furthermore you need a virtual machine, which can reach your vCenter server(s) in case your infrastructure is based on VMware ESXi.
There is no specific need for Hyper-V enviroments. For further information, please have a look at “How inventory works”.
